Introduction to Data Science - Summer 2026
π Welcome to Cogs 9 where we understand data and how it shapes our world.
Summer Session 1 & 2 (2026)
Remote Class
Lectures Pre-Recorded
This is a remote asynchronous class. Therefore, lectures have been pre-recorded. Also, all quizzes and HW assignments are open and you can work on them at your own pace, just be mindful of the due dates for each. There is no final exam in this class, just a final group project.
Joining the class late? Summer moves fast. Read the Joining Late page right away for the few steps to get set up (Piazza, Gradescope, a project group) and stay eligible for full credit.
Office Hours
Live help on Zoom. Bring questions about lectures, assignments, or the project.
- Kyle Shannon (instructor): Wednesday 3:00pm - 4:00pm, Zoom link
- Ian Zane (TA): during the Project Studio sessions below
Project Studio
Project Studio is live working time for your group project on Zoom, starting in Week 2. There are five sessions every week, listed below. Drop into whichever fits your schedule. You do not need to attend all five, and staff are there to answer questions and help your team make progress.
Your group must attend at least one studio each week. Just check in with your team name when you join, and staff will mark your group present. For each week your group does not attend a studio, you lose up to 2% off your final grade.
| Session | When (PDT) | Zoom |
|---|---|---|
| Monday (afternoon) | Mon 5:00-6:00pm | TBD |
| Tuesday (afternoon) | Tue 2:30-3:30pm | TBD |
| Tuesday (evening) | Tue 9:00-10:00pm | Zoom link |
| Thursday (afternoon) | Thu 2:30-3:30pm | TBD |
| Friday (morning) | Fri 8:00-9:00am | TBD |
See the Project Studio page for the weekly project plan and group sign-up.
